How to write a controlling idea essay

A test idea of ​​control exposes an argument and provides evidence to back it up.

One of the first steps for effective test is to assert a sense of control. The idea of ​​test control express your opinion, belief or guidance argument regarding the essay topic. In the top of a piece of paper, write your overall theme, such as “Romeo and Juliet”. Draw a line from the theme to a picture. Draw three lines from the frame to three smaller boxes. Draw three additional lines connecting the three tables with the same table at the bottom of the paper.

Enter your idea of ​​control in the first frame of the organizer. The idea is to control the position, opinion or argument that will defend in your essay. For an essay on “Romeo and Juliet”, a sense of control might be “Juliet is a feminist character” or “Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s tragic.” The idea of ​​control should not be a declaration or simple fact, but rather a debatable position that states your position on the issue.

Write a concrete example in each of the three tables to support your idea of ​​control. Examples might be a text citations, abstracts of research papers or statements of experts that support your position. Use only one example per frame. Below each example, write a sentence that shows how the example supports your idea of ​​control.

Restate your idea of ​​control in the final frame of the graphic organizer. The statement should reaffirm your position but sound different to your statement of the idea of ​​control. If your idea of ​​control was “Romeo and Juliet is the most tragic Shakespeare”, your statement may be reformulated “Both the number and the intensity of the deaths in Romeo and Juliet the play make the tragic work of Shakespeare.”

Refer back to the first frame in your graphic organizer to write your thesis in your first paragraph. The thesis must contain both the overall theme of your essay as your idea of ​​control. Write at least three subsequent sentences to clarify your first statement sums up the direction of your essay and concludes the paragraph to make the transition to specific examples.
